Science Fiction is the debut full length album from Field Manual.

Exposure to 60’s British sci-fi and 50’s American B-movies as a child has heavily informed this record - a deep routed fascination with the sense of ‘otherness’ these influences evoke through the relationship between sound and imagery, imagination and memory.

As reflected in the titles, each track is a scene of an imagined science fiction story using sound to express a setting, scene or mood. Elements of early electronic music, older science fiction soundtracks and eastern drones overlap and interconnect creating atmospheres that are both familiar and other worldly.

Each track was performed live with no overdubs. Recorded between late 2018 and early 2020 using a custom 6U 104HP eurorack system and a Zoom H1 recorder.

The core of the system is based on early musique concrete techniques centred around the Music Thing Modular Turing Machine, Radio Music and Spring Reverb combined with the Make Noise Phonogene and RxMx/FxdF.
